'BEAB Approved' Mark Scheme
The BEAB Approved Mark is an electrical safety mark. It demonstrates to everyone in the supply chain that the UK's leading, independent approvals specialists have evaluated a product to the highest European and International standards. Backed by the expert knowledge of our approvals engineers, the BEAB Approved Mark can provide a robust defence in law against a product liability claim.

Scope:
The 'BEAB Approved' scope covers electrical products for domestic and small office use. Independent testing and certification to European standards is the principal way of demonstrating that a product meets the essential requirements of the relevant EU Directives.
Under the Low Voltage Directive - LVD (safety) 73/23/EEC, the following safety standards apply:
- mains operated electronic apparatus EN 60065
- household electrical appliances EN 60335
- lighting EN 60598
- thermal links EN 60691
- automatic electrical controls EN 60730 (see BEAB Controls Mark)
- information technology equipment EN 60950
- electrical equipment for measurement, control, laboratory use EN 61010
- switches for appliances EN 61058
- power transformers and power supply units EN 61558
Intertek's scope under the EMC Directive (electromagnetic compatibility - minimising the effects of interference between different appliances) 89/336/EEC, includes all those standards relevant to the products listed.
Under the Plugs, Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 (SI 1994/1768), Intertek also check the plugs fitted to electrical products that are subject to approval.
The Approval Process:
To ensure that high standards and quality are maintained, Intertek operates a three-stage approval process:
- Independent product testing. Rigorous independent testing of the product to appropriate standards, carried out at Intertek laboratories in the UK and throughout the world.
- Stringent factory inspection. Pre-production and annual factory assessment, wherever in the world the product is manufactured.
- Market surveillance. On-going surveillance for the product's lifetime, including monitoring for any product modifications and the investigation of complaints.
